Community Health Fair Stop Flu

Alameda Health System (AHS) is hosting the Alameda Hospital Community Health Fair this Saturday, October 12, 2024, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. in the hospital parking lot at 2070 Clinton Avenue, Alameda. We welcome the community to join us for free flu and COVID vaccines while supplies last.

As the seasons change and the weather cools, many of us will be spending more time indoors. Whether you’re gathering to cheer for your favorite team on game day or hosting a celebration for family and friends, indoor group activities can heighten the risk of spreading contagious illnesses including the flu and COVID. Getting vaccinated now can help protect you, your loved ones and those that are most vulnerable.

Vaccination continues to be one of the best ways to protect from contagious diseases. Babies and young children, older adults and individuals with chronic health conditions are at greater risk of complications if they contract the flu. By getting vaccinated, you help protect those who may not have the same ability to fight off illness.

Despite the clear benefits, some myths about the flu vaccine persist, however you cannot catch the flu from the flu vaccine. Some people may experience the mild side effects of vaccination like soreness at the injection site or a low-grade fever, but these are not symptoms of the flu and typically resolve quickly. A typical flu lasts between five and seven days, forcing you to miss work, school or other gatherings.

Don’t miss out take action to safeguard your health and the health of your loved ones.
